DBT Advanced Workshop

About this workshop

This advanced level workshop is designed for clinicians familiar with DBT and who are wanting to improve their outcomes and effectiveness in individual DBT. The workshop focusses on key areas of individual DBT including case formulation, targeting, structuring the session, and managing risk. Common pitfalls and problems therapists encounter in individual DBT will be highlighted and strategies to overcome them taught.

Attendance at this workshop assumes a good working knowledge of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy structure and principles as taught in the Introductory Workshop.

The training model involves completing a case formulation prior to the workshop with time to review and reflect on “what is missing”, as well as observation of individual DBT therapy sessions and opportunity to rate DBT adherence.

Learning Objectives

Improve case formulation from a DBT perspective and identify behavioural and non-behavioural definitions of targets for therapy.

Learn to identify factors effecting the outcomes in individual DBT sessions, including how to effective session structuring and use of contingency management within sessions.

Practice assessment and management of risk using DBT.

Including:

  • Case formulation review
  • Identify Behavioural Targets
  • Individual session structure and strategies
  • Managing life-threatening behaviours using the Linehan Risk Assessment and Management Protocol (L-RAMP)
  • Monitoring adherence and outcomes of DBT individual session
  • Complex case review

Online Workshop

A one day workshop for participants who have completed a two day training is also available in an online format. The numbers are strictly limited and the small group practicums will be delivered via break out rooms with Zoom Webinar. The workshop commences at 9am (AEST) and concludes at 5pm (AEST).
